The years Summer Reading Challenge is almost upon us!
For those new to the challenge, it is hosted annually by The Reading Agency, there is a different theme every year – this years is Read To The Beat! The year is the National Year of Reading, a program to encourage children to read, so this years challenge has an extra importance. The Summer Reading Challenge incentivizes children to read during the summer holidays. The best bit for the children, aside from discovering fantastic new stories, is that we have prizes to earn!
How It Works
To join the challenge is FREE!
Any library member aged 5 – 12 can join in (joining the library is free).
- Sign up for the challenge at any time from July 5th, your child will get a starter pack including stickers, a reading goal is set and your child can take part in our treasure hunt at the library.
- Any book counts towards their reading goal, including comics, ebooks and audiobooks, the book does not have to fit the theme.
- Upon returning books, your child will be given more stickers and a door hanger.
- When the reading goal is met (6 books or more!) your child will receive a certificate and medal!
- Your child has until September 12th to complete their challenge.
The Mini-Challenge (0-4yrs)
There is also a mini challenge for our younger readers. With the mini-challenge the children can collect 6 stickers over 3 visit stickers. With a gold sticker when the challenge is completed!
Signing Up
Any librarian can sign your child up at any time over the summer, during normal library opening hours and provide them with a starter pack.
This years theme is Read To The Beat, although any book counts towards their reading goal. Book recommendations can be found here, or come to the library and browse our shelves!
